Those working in the booming IT industry can take comfort that it offers great job security.

“There are a lot more jobs around and in general there is still a lot of need,” said Eddie Woodwell, owner of Mackay’s EHW Technology.

A study conducted by leading professional services firm PriceWaterhouseCooper shows the nation’s information technology sector is growing so fast that it had the capacity to create 540,000 new jobs by 2033 – a figure that does not surprise Mr Woodwell.

“Technology is advancing that quickly that I’d definitely recommend it (a career in IT),” Mr Woodwell said.

Even though there was a lot of continuous advance with technology, it all required management, he said.

IT networks, computer repairs, combined with new measures to do with software development and existing software, is where the advance is happening.

Mr Woodwell said advances in technology, specifically cloud-based services, had made running costs cheaper for IT companies.

He described them as “more mobile”, with products like iPads and iPhones now much more readily available.

“From a business point of view, it’s a lot cheaper to run,” Mr Woodwell said.

Why do we punish the victims of hacking?

2017-09-21 09:00:00 +0100

Hacks occur every 39 seconds, with 95% of them targeting governments, retailers and the tech industry. If the hackers are caught, they'll face prison time under the Computer Misuse Act. More often than not, the businesses who are victims of those attacks expose themselves to punishment of their own. The laws that determine the duty of protection owed to businesses and their customers is both vague and broad, making them question just how much protection...
