Microsoft has released Dynamics AX 2012 R3 – the latest version of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.

Launched in April, this is the first version of the ERP offering that will be available on the cloud on and infrastructure-as-a-service-basis via Windows Azure.

Several companies have already deployed or will deploy the solution via the cloud, including Lotus F1 Team and furniture manufacturer Ashley Furniture.

AX 2012 R3 has a major focus on mobile applications, with new business intelligence apps for expenses, timesheets and approvals.

Other apps include Modern Point of Sale, Business Analyzer, Shop Floor, Paystub and Time and Approval.

Connecting all of this is the ERP’s solution Modern App Framework, which allows companies to develop, manage, distribute, and use modern apps.

The framework uses the cloud Dynamics AX’s web services framework for communication between the modern apps on mobile devices and Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Microsoft has also provided more industry-specific functionality in this new release, with improvements to warehouse management, transportation management, trade allowance management, demand forecasting and e-procurement.
