The Australian government has released a draft guide to provide administrative and ethical frameworks for government officials using data analytics.
The draft ‘Guide to Responsible Data Analytics’ covers policy frameworks around the use of data analytics such as information management, data integration, privacy and security, said Marc Vickers, Assistant Secretary, Governance and Policy Branch, Australian Government Information Management Office.
It notes that while big data research projects generally do not require active participation from individuals, they could access personal information and data and, in such cases, government agencies should identify and refer these risks to a Human Research Ethics Committee.
The main goal of the guide is to maintain trust between government and citizens as the public sector increases its use of analytics.
