Networking specialist Brocade has unveiled a virtualisation platform aimed squarely at the cloud and telecommunications service providers sector. The offering uses all the appropriate open source and modular terminology that has become synonymous with Network Functions Virtualisation and Software Defined Networking.

The Vyatta platform is the first phase of a multiyear strategy embracing the requirements outlined within the ETSI NFV ISG, along with the open source software projects such as OpenDaylight and OpenStack, the company said.

The architecture of the platform is comprised of three core layers: NFV Connection Services, SDN Structural Services, and Functional Orchestration.

Each layer of this open architecture is modular, the firm said. NFV Connection Services deploy Layer 3-7 network functionality with the Brocade Vyatta vRouter and the Brocade vADX products; SDN Structural Services leverage the advancements of the OpenDaylight Project to simplify management through centralised control; Functional Orchestration engages a range of capabilities from OpenStack and widely interoperable third-party provisioning and orchestration layers.

“The growing complexity of today’s virtualised networks has made it no longer feasible to rely on a single vendor to deliver an end-to-end solution that fits every customer’s requirements of service agility and scalability,” said Kelly Herrell, vice president and general manager of software networking at Brocade.

Why do we punish the victims of hacking?

2017-09-21 09:00:00 +0100

Hacks occur every 39 seconds, with 95% of them targeting governments, retailers and the tech industry. If the hackers are caught, they'll face prison time under the Computer Misuse Act. More often than not, the businesses who are victims of those attacks expose themselves to punishment of their own. The laws that determine the duty of protection owed to businesses and their customers is both vague and broad, making them question just how much protection...
