Teradata Corporation (TDC) Increases Investments In Big Data Analytics, Cloud And Marketing Apps

Teradata Corporation President and CEO, Mike Koehler, said that the company was increasing its investments considerably in Big Data Analytics, Teradata Cloud and Marketing Applications. Aside from these, the company would also invest in demand creation to spread its market presence in the current year. Though this would affect its earnings, he was confident this would prepare the company for long-term revenue, as well as, earnings growth.

Teradata Corporation's CEO comments came after the company’s guidance fell short of expectations. Koehler said that the company was not satisfied with the results of the fourth quarter and full year. However, he said that they were roughly in line with the company’s expectations.

The CEO said that the fourth quarter witnessed a record number of fresh customer wins and also recorded the second biggest number of wins for 2014. The company was focusing on its Big Data Analytics, as well as, Marketing Apps portfolios during the fourth quarter. His comments indicated that the company wanted to take advantage of the growing opportunities in the cloud computing.

Gross margin for Teradata Corporation witnessed a fall on a YOY basis. While GAAP margin slipped to 55.8% from 56%, adjusted gross margin skid to 56.9% from 57.3% in the year earlier quarter. The company generated cash from operating activities of $97 million in the fourth quarter. The company also bought back 6.1 million shares for about $268 million in the December quarter.
