Heinz puts SAP Hana in the cloud to boost global efficiency

5/02/2015 by Sharon Shahzad

Food producer  Heinz has deployed SAP Hana on Virtustream’s xStream platform-as-a-service (PaaS) infrastructure to boost efficiency.

Davor Brkovich, director of global technology operations at Heinz, said: "The cloud offered a simple way to manage this on a global scale.

"Working with Virtustream enabled us to deploy a unified business intelligence platform across offices in more than 40 countries. We now have greater visibility into key performance trends, the ability to identify problem areas and quickly optimise sales strategies by data across multiple local markets."

Heinz faced challenges integrating the disparate sources of data running across its many on-premises business intelligence platforms. It needed a single system that could be granular and provide real-time visibility.

Virtustream said it was able to roll out SAP Hana across the company’s global architecture ahead of schedule, enabling Heinz  to take full advantage of the high-performance platform.

Last year Heinz’s new global CIO, Leandro Balbinot, spearheaded the global roll-out of the latest SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) software suite.

In an interview with Computer Weekly, he said: "We are really looking seriously at cloud solutions for most of the things we’re implementing for now."

By using Hana via the Virtustream managed service, Heinz can effectively hold one version of the truth centrally. Rodney Rogers, Chairman and CEO, Virtustream, said: “With an integrated view across their business and the ability to rapidly analyse performance data in the cloud, Heinz will see not only see significant cost savings in the cloud, but they will also realise revenue-driving potential in their PaaS infrastructure.”
