ORACLE HELPS BIZ SEE THE BIG PICTURE IN BIG DATA

The concept of Big Data is often next to impossible for the human mind to comprehend. For businesses, troves of data can be unmanageable and, therefore, worthless. But a new tool from Oracle will help businesses see the big picture in their Big Data by turning data sets into visualized information.

In an announcement through its company blog last week, Oracle revealed the release of its new data product, the Oracle Big Data Spatial and Graph. The tool focuses on data related to geo-location, for example zip codes, and organizes that information into understandable trends and relationships.

While Oracle has offered both Spatial and Graph analytics capabilities through Oracle Database for years, the company is now upgrading the services to Hadoop and NoSQL, allowing Oracle to both store and analyze the data in the same space – part of Oracle’s efforts to minimize data movement, the company said.

The tool, the company added, is available to both new and existing Big Data business customers.

Oracle has been revving up its data analytics offerings in recent months. Last month, Oracle Senior Vice President Shawn Price told reporters in India that the firm will become the next Big Data leader, dethroning Salesforce by the end of the year. The firm has a goal of $2.5 billion in revenue by the end of 2015 for its cloud computing operations.

Last March, the firm announced the Oracle Data-as-a-Service product aimed at the B2B industry. Its DaaS unit aids suppliers in targeting potential buyers and utilizes data to strengthen the buyer/supplier relationship.
