It has been revealed that Thailand’s Somphol Bedding and Mattress Industry Co Ltd (SPB) has chosen Epicor as its new enterprise resource planning (ERP) provider. The business solutions provider offers key tools to manufacturing, distribution, retail and service companies around the world. Somphol Bedding has a 10-year plan to expand in Asia and saw Epicor’s ERP 10 as the perfect fit.

Somphol Bedding currently has 220 employees. Founded 25 years ago, the company has become an established name in the niche market of manufacturing and distributing premium bedding and mattresses, particularly those sought after by resorts, large construction projects and iconic hotels across Thailand, South Asia and South East Asia. As an example, SPB was recently appointed as Parker&Morgan’s sole sub-distributor of bedding products for all operations in Thailand.

Nophol Techaphangam, the vice-MD for Somphol Bedding, said the company has a clear business strategy for the coming decade and is confident that it will be see a successful expansion with the help of Epicor. “For more than seven months, we looked into various software solutions together with our IT consultant to find the most suitable tool to assist us with our expansion plans,” Mr Techaphangam said, adding: “Finally, our board of directors and management team decided that the Epicor software solution ERP 10 is the most suitable solution that will greatly help and grow with us for the years to come.”

Epicor began a series of training and education programmes for Somphol Bedding’s workforce in mid-July, despite the system not actually going live until July next year. Once fully integrated, Somphol says the system will help the company to make quicker and more informed decisions.

Speaking about the agreement, Epicor’s senior vice-president of Asia Pacific operations, Craig Charlton, explained: “In the coming months, Epicor will be closely working with SPB to create greater value for its customers as well as improving its business results. Our ERP 10 is specifically tailored to meet SPB’s business needs for both the present and the future.”

ERP 10 is based on Microsoft technology and utilises 100% service-orientated architecture. It is an end-to-end tool that is also industry specific, giving enterprises precise tools with which to work; in addition, companies are free to choose whether they would like deployment as on-premises, software-as-a-service or hosted. The solution is already active in more than 100 countries, with ERP 10 able to meet the various tax regimes of nations such as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

Why do we punish the victims of hacking?

2017-09-21 09:00:00 +0100

More often than not, the businesses who are victims of those attacks expose themselves to punishment of their own. The laws that determine the duty of protection owed to businesses and their customers is both vague and broad, making them question just how much protection...
