Software-defined networking vendor Plexxi completed another round of funding that added $35 million to its coffers, which it plans to use to round out its sales, marketing and customer support, as well as boost its research and development efforts.
Plexxi is hoping to capitalize on the emerging SDN and converged networking trends. It has now raised $83 million to supports its software-defined data center architecture and SDN strategy.
"We are experiencing a generational shift to a new era of IT in which applications and data are rapidly increasing demand for a new agile and scale-out networking architecture," said Rich Napolitano, CEO of Plexxi, in a statement. "Plexxi represents a transformative converged networking and application-centric approach to traditional legacy networking."
The last year has been an important one for the company. Napolitano was named CEO in November 2014 and has tried to grow the company through geographic expansion and customer sales efforts, particularly in the enterprise and service provider realms. Plexxi's products have been available since December 2012 when it entered the market with an SDN system dubbed Affinity Networking.
