4/11/2015 by Sharon Shahzad

KPMG has launched a big data observatory at Imperial College London in a bid to help businesses improve their products and services

The data centre, part of KPMG’s long-term £20m investment in data research, will allow people to visualise big data such as cryptocurrency transactions, migration patterns and commuter movements.

The Big Four firm said the observatory is the largest of its kind in Europe, with a circular wall of 64 monitors powered by 32 computers.

The centre, built by and located at the Imperial’s Data Science Institute, aims to develop new approaches for using big data, helping banks to predict fraud or retailers to better understand consumer behavior.

Alwin Magimay, head of digital and analytics at KPMG, said, “The KPMG data observatory will provide a new capability for businesses to gain insight from big data, identify patterns and solve complex business issues.
