Some Useful CV Tips

Writing a good CV can be one of the toughest challenges of job hunting. Most employers spend just a few seconds scanning each CV before sticking it in the ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ pile.

Use our advice below to ensure that your CV is one of those that is read.

  • Check spelling and grammar: Sounds like an obvious one, but ensuring your CV has no spelling or grammatical errors is essential. By using a spell checker or asking someone else to read through it you won’t fall down at the first hurdle when applying for jobs.

  • Include everything: Leaving gaps on your CV will make potential employers question your work history so always explain why these gaps occurred. It is important to be honest on your CV, do not lie as you will inevitably be found out and this will have a serious impact on your credibility.

  • Don’t be shy to shout about your achievements: Your CV should sell you to a potential employer, so it is important to include all your achievements – professional or personal. If you have significantly and consistently exceeded targets or won awards etc note this as it will demonstrate the level of candidate you are.
