An opportunity has arisen with one of the UK's leading international retailers for a Business Solutions manager to focus on partnering the business and delivering high profile IT programs. Working within the international arm of the business, which is also the fastest growing, you would be responsible for a diverse range of projects with the key purpose of the role being:

  • To own the relationship between the designated business unit and IT, delivering close alignment between the teams to add value to the organisation
  • To work closely with the business and IT teams to ensure that the designated business unit has an IT strategy, a business unit operating plan, business/IT programmes supported by business cases and an effective and efficient IT support team
  • To ensure that all projects undertaken have robust and trackable benefits and support the business to track and measure these benefits
  • To provide input and advice on the strategic direction of IT in the business unit alongside Strategy and Architecture helping the business to understand the capability of IT and how it can support new ways of working
  • To co-ordinate activities and dependencies for a single programme or large project ensuring the delivery is integrated and comes together at the right time to deliver agreed requirements
  • To monitor and report on the progress of programme delivery, proactively addressing escalated risks and issues that impact delivery, feeding into a central view of risks and issues across the leadership stream, keeping the relevant stakeholders updated
  • To make suggestions and recommendations and deliver ongoing efficiencies and improvements across the Business Solutions stream

Accountabilites:

  • Work hand-in-hand with the designated business unit to translate business objectives & plans into achievable IT objectives, plans and service
  • Ensure on-going dialogue with the business unit, establishing a strong business / IT team and gaining sponsorship for IT from key stakeholders
  • Manage the expectations of the relevant business unit, facilitating its thinking and ensuring that proposals are realistic
  • Challenge and prioritise business requirements to ensure real value is added to the process and not purely a conduit for requirements
  • Work closely with the Strategy & Architecture team, develop the plans into a series of investment projects & programmes to produce a coherent 3 year IT Strategy for the business unit. Ensure that these programmes are prioritised with the business unit and have the requisite funding built into the operating plan, and have clear cost benefit analyses
  • Perform system and vendor selection alongside Strategy and Architecture
  • Develop a business unit / IT operating plan to enable the business to make effective spend and investment decisions through justifying, costing, estimating and planning. Maximise economic efficiency, and value for money, through consistent delivery across customer base of IT services
  • Advise business customers at senior management level regarding the delivery, costs, availability and functionality of IT services and systems and develop an effective partnership whilst at the same time acting as an ambassador for the IT function
  • Oversee the delivery of programmes to time and budget, ensuring programmes are configured to deliver agreed objectives and realise stated benefits, and prioritised against clear agreed criteria within an overall business/IT Governance Process
  • Provide regular reviews of programme progress against milestones to the business and IT management as appropriate, identifying risks, slippages and proposing mitigating actions to ensure agreed programme benefits are delivered
  • After successful implementation, work with the business to ensure investment in IT is fully exploited. Work with the business to measure and realise the benefits
  • Agree resourcing of programmes with the delivery team and ensure that the Infrastructure & Application Services team and other third parties/suppliers are engaged early in the programmes to ensure delivery of a seamless service post implementation
  • Ensure that appropriate "Service Level Agreements" (SLAs) exist between IT and the business, which are well understood both in IT and the business, and report back to the business regularly on the performance of IT against the corresponding metrics. Act as an escalation point for any under delivery of IT service to the business
  • Manage a line team of Project Managers and Third Parties to execute the defined accountabilities
  • Build and maintain relationships across the internal team and Suppliers
  • Ensure that Supplier accountabilities for Business Solutions are being met, escalating where appropriate
  • Monitor Supplier performance and liaise with the Vendor Manager to provide supplier performance updates/reviews
  • Work with the other Business Solutions Managers, Central Services and Programme Managers to ensure common ways of working
  • Ensure IT programmes and initiatives are implemented in accordance with technology strategy and standards
