Job Description

Montash is currently retained by a Global Leading Organisation seeking to acquire a Director of Software Development to join their growing business. Our client is looking for an experienced Head of/ Director of Software Development with previous experience in leading complex software development teams. The principal responsibility of this role is the strategic leadership of the Software Development team for all application development within the company.

This department covers several functional areas including: Portal, Modelling, Mobile, GIS and Data Visualisation. It is a department of significant growth within the 2015 project portfolio including:

  • Developing the strategic architecture and platform roadmap for the client facing product vision
  • Shaping and delivering the mobile apps within the organisation
  • Implementing a new desktop modelling tool
  • Replacing the existing online Portal GIS solution

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a high profile, largely influential global team, and has to be able to demonstrate leadership qualities.

Accountabilities:

  • Organise and chair the Joint Architecture Team (JAG) involving the client and its 3rd Party Vendors
  • Overall owner of the software and systems architecture within the defined scope
  • Scheduling of software upgrades with Technology Services
  • Owner of all documentation for the architecture
  • Engender a positive culture of productivity, predictability and quality across the development team aimed at delivering best-in-class products and services
  • Leadership, development and delivery of the team strategy, working practices and processes
  • Strategic resource management to ensure the team is developed in-line with projected demand
  • Skills and career development within the team
  • Recruitment, objective setting, assessment, coaching and mentoring of team members
  • Liaison with Business Leads and SMEs to develop the overall Product Roadmaps
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Technology Services to ensure Roadmaps are properly planned, managed, supported and reported
  • Work with other Team Managers, Project Managers and PMO to ensure that processes are harmonised, and adhered to, across the overall department
  • Ensure an appropriate set of development, coding and documentation standards are in place without limiting flexibility and ownership
  • Work with Test Management and Technology services to review feedback on defect and incident rates and ensure lessons learned for continual quality improvement across all development team deliverables

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • The successful candidate will have a technology background and proven track record working as a Software Development Manager
  • Experience of strategic development of a software development function
  • Experience of defining software development standards and methods and governing adherence
  • Ability to work in an open and trusting way to ensure team spirit is maintained and to be part of a virtual team involving multiple locations and time zones
  • Understanding of SCRUM/Agile Project Management
