Jade's Montash Story
Montash interviewed Recruitment consultant, Jade McDonagh about her journey with Montash. Jade works in the Montash Corporate team, working with clients and candidates in the world of Data and Analytics. What have been your highlights? I would say just returning back to Montash was a highlight since I still knew lots of people from my previous time here. It was nice not feeling like the new girl all over again and it was easy to settle in and get to work. One thing I really enjoy about the role is the amount of face-time I get with people. I’m more of a people person, so working the UK market means I get to actually meet my candidates and clients - I think it’s so important we don’t lose touch of human interaction and hide behind our phones day in, day out. What have you found challenging? Moving from contract delivery to a permanent 360° desk all whilst opening up a brand new market within Montash was definitely a challenge for me. It hasn’t been a walk in the park, but the transition has been a smooth one and I’m enjoying taking a more personal approach to working with both candidates and clients during the hiring process. What does a typical day look like for you at Montash? My day always starts with a to-do list which is usually filled with candidate catch-ups , resourcing for live roles, business development and brushing up on my market knowledge whilst drinking copious amounts of tea! What motivates you on a day to day basis? It still amazes me how much a new job can change someone’s life for the better, so being able to offer new opportunities to the candidates I work with is definitely a key motivator for me - I genuinely get a buzz out of being a matchmaker. When you’re a consultant, you get out what you put in which really helps push you through the harder times. What were the key milestones to passing your six-month probation? Well making the first placement is a start! Once you’ve done that, it feels like the world has been lifted off your shoulders and you can breathe again (until the next month that is!). Having the autonomy to deal with tricky clients or candidates, or difficult scenarios myself rather than being hidden behind a senior consultant or an account manager - it might not sound like a big deal, but it really is those things that keep you pushing for more and moulds you into a better consultant.
